Transition to Jordan

23 Aug

Phillip and I spent July and the first half of August traveling and visiting family and friends.  (Above: Barbaritos in Valdosta – shout out to Joanna!) Our major U.S. trip
included a 4-day Phoenix to Atlanta drive with Beth and Carney as they transitioned
to life in Valdosta, GA.  Before we left, Tiet cooked several delicious Vietnamese dishes, and Shamrock (Carney’s dog) overcame her blindness in order to succeed at playing catch.

On the road trip, I enjoyed watching the landscape change from catus-covered hills to  painted desert to Texas plains to beautiful green east of the Mississippi.  Our night in Amarillo, we stayed at Jenny Cumming’s apartment and played Monopoly Deal.  In Ft. Smith, AK we stayed with a total stranger (Beth’s friend’s grandmother, whom none of us had ever met!).  Day three, we booked it to Arab in order to spend time with Grandy and eat her breakfast casserole.  By the fourth day, Phillip and I were dropped
off in Atlanta to say our goodbyes to friends there.

Beth was just at 5 weeks pregnant when we said goodbye from Pine Mountian.  Phillip and I have bought our tickets to return for our niece’s birth in mid-December.  Another special time for me included a visit from Marie (above).  We stayed up til 2:00 a.m. talking like old college times and made a diaper cake the next morning for her friend’s baby shower.  We also had a great time with my parents cooking, picking okra, visiting my Mom’s first grade class, talking, and making last minute preparations for our journey to Jordan.  Grandy, Tim, Faye, and Ryan also came to Harris County for a visit.  Below, I finally talked Phillip and Dad into finishing a game that Mom and I had started with them.  I LOVE “Settlers of Catan!”
