About

Marhaba & howdy!  We started our cyberspace journey as “Stokes in Jordan” in the fall of 2011 when we (Phillip & Rachel) packed the entire contents of our Atlanta house into one room in our basement and flew across land and sea to study, live, and work in Amman, Jordan for two years.  All our blog entries prior to June 2013 are about our life there in the Middle East, subtitled, “Things you’d never know about Jordan unless you’d lived there.”

As of August 2013, we sold or gave away most of our possessions in Amman, moved back to the U.S., relished a few summer weeks in Georgia with dear family & friends, transferred those basement contents to a 16-foot moving truck, then drove 1,006 miles to Austin, Texas.  Here, Phillip will be fulfilling a long-time dream of obtaining a PhD (this one’s in Arabic/Middle Eastern Studies) and Rachel will continue to teach English as a Second Language to folks from all over the world.

Welcome to our journey!
